Mind the eyes. An animal looking straight out of the wall is a strong effect, and most people either love it or start finding it too much within a week. Profile shots and animals photographed at a distance are easier to live with long term. Match the scene to your light as well. A dark forest print in a dim basement room will go darker still, so pick a brighter savanna, shoreline or open-sky image for rooms like that.
